Our Mission
Our Vision
Our vision is to be the online alternative to traditional in-person therapy, using technology’s reach to provide the benefits of therapy to all who struggle with life’s challenges.
Our Founder
Crystal Thorpe; MSW (Catholic University), PhD (Stanford University), LCSW-C.
Crystal Thorpe, a licensed clinical social worker, is Founder and CEO of Counseling Made Easy. As a board-approved supervisor, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, and member of the National Association of Social Workers, she has spent over a decade helping people fulfill their dreams in life, love, and career. Her clients range from high functioning individuals who thrive with supportive counseling to those who struggle with serious mental health challenges.
Crystal Thorpe is passionate about serving those in need and has demonstrated her passion by working with individuals, couples, families, and groups. She has worked in a range of settings, providing therapy not only in traditional outpatient clinics but also in homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, and a hospital-based eating disorder program. In addition, she continues to serve as team lead and in-home therapist for multiple interdisciplinary mobile treatment teams.
Crystal Thorpe has also worked at the policy and programmatic level with the Assets for Independence (AFI) Program administered by The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. In this capacity, she designed and taught training webinars to AFI grantees to facilitate their understanding of program requirements and best practices. She also developed and streamlined procedures for the AFI program and wrote a manual for their newly acquired information tracking software.
Before becoming a therapist Crystal Thorpe worked for nearly a decade as a philosophy professor, where she developed an unwavering commitment to teach and empower graduate and undergraduate students alike. Through her teaching experience, she developed a deeper understanding of the importance of addressing multiple facets of individuals’ lives. Although she helped students excel academically, she realized that personal, relational, and societal factors play vital roles in how individuals navigate through life. This profound understanding led her to pursue a career in social work and ultimately establish Counseling Made Easy to ensure that individuals in need could have easy access to high quality counseling.
Crystal Thorpe holds a Master of Social Work from The National Catholic School of Social Service at Catholic University and a PhD in philosophy from Stanford University. As an experienced professor, author and speaker, Crystal Thorpe has written numerous academic articles for leading publications and has spoken at various conferences across the nation and internationally.
No need to subscribe.
Most online therapy platforms only offer subscriptions. We feel this can prolong your treatment unnecessarily and foster dependence on therapy, which is just the opposite of what clinically appropriate therapy aims to do. At Counseling Made Easy we are here to help you get better, so that over time you need less therapy and become better able to handle whatever comes your way. We know we are doing our job well when we work ourselves out of a job!
Pay per session.
You can also pay per session, something most online therapy platforms do not offer. At Counseling Made Easy you pay for the sessions you need rather than a subscription you may not need. If you need a session, log on to your private and HIPAA compliant client portal. Often you can get an appointment for the next day or even the same day, depending upon availability. If you do not see what you need, message us. We will try our best to accommodate you!
Savings without subscriptions.
You can pay by the month for savings, which is our alternative to subscriptions. See our package deals.
Communicate with your therapist between sessions.
There is a fine line between too much between session help and too little. Too much can result in an unhealthy reliance on your therapist. Too little can leave you feeling unsupported. In our view many online platforms make the mistake of offering too much between session help, under the guise of “unlimited messaging” or “unlimited therapist support.” At Counseling Made Easy, you have access to your therapist between sessions, through text, messaging, and phone calls. However, you and your therapist will set appropriate and healthy limits on this. That way, over-reliance on your therapist will not get in the way of you learning how to manage your life on our own.
No messaging only therapy.
At Counseling Made Easy we do not believe therapy by messaging or texting alone, without live, real-time interaction between the client and the therapist, is clinically appropriate.
Full length 45-minute sessions.
Most online therapy platforms offer 30-minute therapy sessions by default. Typically, their most expensive subscription plans offer you four 30-minute therapy sessions per month (and “unlimited messaging”). The other subscription plans either offer you one 30-minute therapy session per month (and “unlimited messaging’) or no therapy sessions at all (and only “unlimited messaging”). Some therapists on their platforms may offer longer sessions, some may not. At Counseling Made Easy, all sessions are 45-minutes long.
Uniformity across providers.
On many large online platforms, the quality and consistency of the service you receive depends on the therapist with whom you are matched. At Counseling Made Easy, no matter who your therapist is, you will receive the same high-quality services in line with our philosophy.
Individualized treatment planning.
We believe it is important to work with you as an individual, helping you to set and reach goals which will truly make your life better. At Counseling Made Easy you are at the center of your therapy and your well-being is our greatest concern.
